New Eldritch Farming Sim, Mandrake, Announced in PC Gaming Show

Failbetter Games are known for their incredible story-telling and narrative-weaving after earning their reputation with titles like Sunless Skies or Sunless Sea. Their newly-announced rural farming game, Mandrake, is a step away from their usual genres, but is still steeped in the magic that made their previous games so good.

As the last of a long line of Mandrake sorcerers, you return to your family's abandoned homestead with the intention of relearning your family's forgotten art of Herbology. But Herbology is a cursed and forbidden magic, and as you explore the woods and beaches around your new home for resources, you may find more than you bargained for.

This world is also home to spirits, gods, bogles, and horrifying creatures that rule the night and lurk in the places that mortals dare not go. Some claim to know you, while others may tempt you with drinks from a forgotten past, and there's a strange whistling that echoes in the depth of the mines.

Speaking of mines, this game has all the traits of a typical farming sim albeit steeped in British folklore. Farm your land, but growing strange crops like thunder-calling taran or a goose-tree; fish in the rivers, but overfishing may result in you being cursed; and get to know the locals, all of whom are a little eccentric - but who wouldn't be surrounded by these myths and legends come to life?

While Mandrake has been confirmed to launch on PC, sadly there's currently no release date for Mandrake, as according to the devs Madrake is "complex and has some very unusual features". So they're looking for player feedback to help steer the game further.
